Singer's Workshop May 20th!
-
April 24, 2012
So much is going on this Spring! The best news is that the Singer's Workshop is on for May 20th. See the flyer on the home page for more information, until I can create a new "page" for it. The workshop is a great opportunity for singer's to work on their performance chops. The workshop meets for 4 weeks and we will work on a new "performance" issue each week. Participants will get an opportunity to try out their new skills as they go, performing and receiving feedback each week. The workshop concludes with a featured performance, where you can invite your friends, family and fans!
The monthly Singer's Salon is turning out to be a true hit! Every month we meet at Deagan Music (at Berteau and Ravenswood), where singer's of all genres, skill levels and shapes and sizes show up and perform. An accompanist is provided. All singer's are welcome as well as other musicians. It is great fun and an great way to get up in front of an audience on a regular basis. The atmosphere is one of encouragement and support! The next Salon is scheduled for May 6 at 7:00. Check us out on meetup and facebook! (links on the link page)
I currently have some openings in my home studio for voice lessons, so give me a call!

SINGER'S SALON a Success!
-
January 8, 2012
The Singer's Salon has been a stunning success! So much fun to see folks show up and do their thing. This month the date is Jan 15. (Please see the poster on the homepage for details) Due to the holidays we have pushed back the date one week. As usual Maggie will be on hand to play for anyone who wants to bring sheet music and spontaneously sing. Also, Wendy is available for coaching sessions, with or without Maggie, to help you work a number or two into shape should you desire. Please call for information about that. Discounts for a future coaching session will be on offer to whoever attends the January Salon! YAY!

SINGER'S SALON!
-
October 19, 2011
SO much going on! Wendy Parman Voice Studio with Deagan Music (Maggie Dahlberg) will be hosting a new Singer's Salon on the second Sunday of the month starting Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m.(I trust you saw the flyer on the home page). The idea behind the salon is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for singers of all kinds, genres and range of experience to come out and get in front of an audience to perform. It will be run somewhat like an open mic and will feature Maggie on piano accompaniment. (And who knows? Maybe The Red Apples will put in an appearance...) I will be featuring one or two singers as well, to get things going.
The atmosphere is one of encouragement and excellence. We all need more of that. The space is intimate and BYOB, some refreshments will be offered and a very small cover to offset the costs. ($3) Bring your friends and make some new ones! Also don't forget to bring sheet music in your key! If you like of course, you may accompany yourself on guitar, piano or whatever works. The studio will be set up for a variety of instrumentation, but the emphasis in on singing!
I would like to encourage folks to call (773-474-8471) or email (either from this site or wlparman@gmail.com) and sign up in advance so we have an idea of who and how many are coming. But you can also just show up.
We SOOOO look forward to hearing the many interesting singers, actor-singers, singer-songwriters, scatters, rockers, classicals and what-have-you, share their talent with everyone!

Great Summer!

August 16, 2011
What an awesome summer it has been! Stay tuned for pix and video of the Singer's Workshop which took place in July and was wrapped up with super performances by all at Deagan Music. Also check out my blog for some self analysis about how I did as a teacher/coach!
"The Singer's Workshop in July was a very rewarding experience for me and hopefully for the participants as well. I'm sure I learned as much as my students did if not more! Here is a smattering thereof..."

Spring 2011

April 27, 2011
It's Spring again and the Spring recital is in the works! This year the recital will be held at Maggie Dahlberg's cool studio space in Ravenswood. I'm really looking forward to a more laid back, chill (as the kids would say) vibe at the recital this time around. We're looking at May 15 for the big day! The Bloomingdale School of Music also has their Spring recital that weekend, on Saturday the 14th, so it will be a very busy one for all of us!
I'm planning a summer showcase for my more, ahem, adult students, so let me know if you are interested.
The Red Apples acoustic trio are out and about again, so please drop by sometime and see us!
Busy Summer!

Well, I am far behind in the reporting of news and happenings-as ever. This has been a great summer, with some new vocal and acting students and some interesting developments on the teaching and performing fronts. I had a rockin' good time teaching vocal workshops at Girl's Rock Chicago this year and I totally recommend that rock summer camp for any girls out there who really want to rock! What a great group of people! Check it out at
www.girlsrockchicago.org .
Also I will be teaching voice starting this fall at Bloomingdale School of Music for those of you who live further north. Another awesome group of folks...I look forward to it! See their website for more information,
www.bloomingdaleschoolofmusic.com .
And finally I will be posting video of students at the Spring Recital 2010, as well as putting up a "Hall of Fame" for all the great stuff my students are doing.
And there's more to come, so stop back by soon.
Recital and other news

The Spring recital is in the works and will be held May 23 at The Prop Theater on Elston, one of our favorite theaters in Chicago. I can't wait to see many of my hardworking students perform! Stay tuned for pix and maybe some video!
Next on the agenda-Summer! A new performance workshop is in the offing. This is an excellent opportunity for singers to work out their performance issues in a safe and supportive setting. Please give me a call to hear the details.
Also I will be teaching this summer at the Rock Academy in Downers Grove. Check out this fabulous school for all things rock 'n' roll including voice lessons! If you live out that way this is the place for us to get together and get your voice in shape! Here's a link to their page:

But don't hold your breath. Thanks to all who have been signing up on my website. Don't forget to find me on facebook as well as my band, The Red Apples. All kinds of links to our website, facebook and myspace are on this site. My blog is listed on the links page as well as an interesting link to modern vocalist.com, A new website for singers, teachers of singing, and all things singers might be interested in! Check it out at
www.modernvocalist.com . I have an ongoing debate going on there about the value of dvd's that teach about singing.
Soon we will be organizing a spring recital for students, as well as more workshop info coming up! Feel free to email me with questions and concerns.
Thanks, Wendy

It's been sooooo difficult to keep up with all the news on this and various websites for my band The Red Apples. Suffice it to say the Holidays are upon us. Some students take a (hopefully) short break while others just plow through it. Good for them! The Holidaze are a good time to start makin' music-not stop!
I've got a blog going that I need to put a link up to and that is sadly behind the times as well. In the new year I intend to prioritize all of that. But in the meantime vocal students are progressing and a new workshop will be forming soon. Stand by for details!
The Red Apples Reverbnation widget can be seen under The Red Apples if you are looking for a calender of events just click on "shows". We've got a few coming up, and we'll be featuring some new band members. It's sounding pretty good. Hope some of you can come out and join us. Dec 26th at Galvin's Public House promises to be a good time!

Ron and I and the rest of the new Red Apples have been having lots of fun in the recording studio putting together a sampling of some of our acoustic covers and originals. Check out a reworking of that fabulous old Sonny & Cher song., "Bang Bang" on the music page. Not done yet-just a sample. More to come plus a link to my new blog about-what else? Singing!

The website has been up and running for a while but it is far from finished. We will be adding more pictures, music samples, students comments, etc. so feel free to check back and see what's new. We have a reverbnation widget that will get you a quick view to what The Red Apples are doing, and links to our website, myspace and facebook, etc. Also under feedback you will find some student comments about working with me as well as an opportunity to put a comment yourself if you like. Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding voice lessons, coaching, gigs or whathaveyou.
